Good morning. Paul-another newbie here. I've been reading the posts on this as I'm having the same problem. It started with the right side slowing down while doing some dirt work. It kept trying to stall and the lever would stick and then release. The engine would also try to stall. I parked it and found that the hyd tanks were very hot to the touch, probably over 200 degrees. Ran it the next day, worked for about 10 min and then lost all movement on the right side. Garaged it, checked all the linkage and oil level. All looks fine. Pulled and capped motor hoses with no response at all. Could the relief valve be stuck open thus not allowing any pressure build up? I would rather replace this than pull the pumps. Everything else on the machine works fine. thanx for your help.

Chances are you have a failed drive pump. When I was running an 1830, it did the same thing(Controls got real touchy, would stall if moved too much) Then nothing. The rotating group fails, and damages the swash plate in the process. If you are capable of getting the drive pumps out, you are capable of rebuilding them. They are really simple. Save yourself some money and disassemble the other side at the same time. chances are it will need a rotating group as well, but the swash plate may be OK if you catch it before a failure. Clean out the lines and tank the best you can. I put magnets in the bottom of the reservoir, and it caught all the stuff I wasnt able to get out.
