If it's a K series which an '08 should be, it has a hydraulic driven fan motor. Flip the cab, its not hard to see with the cab up and inspect the area to see if it is the motor, hose or fitting. If it's the motor, only choice is to replace. If the motor is aluminum, there is an update to replace with a cast iron motor. There is a kit with everything needed and step by step instructions. Once the motor is replaced, the dealer needs to hook the service laptop up and change settings in the controller. There is a big warning that not changing setting will wreck the new motor. Those pics didn't work, try this.
Thanks dan, ill look into it more when i get a chance and report back. Thanks for the quick response. If it's a K series which an '08 should be, it has a hydraulic driven fan motor. I tore into it tonight, I made sure it wasn't leaking from above and its not, Lifted the cab and the fan motor has fluid all over. I called the Bobcat dealer and he confirmed they had issues with the aluminium motors, said the new updated version is cast and it has to be installed at a dealer and then reprogrammed just like you said, he wouldn't even give me the part number..... He quoted me $795 for the pump and 3 hours labor including computer hook up. So there goes $1100.......Thanks dan, ill look into it more when i get a chance and report back. Ouch, whatever happened to a recall for defective parts?I tore into it tonight, I made sure it wasn't leaking from above and its not, Lifted the cab and the fan motor has fluid all over. It was never a big issue that the aluminum were junk. It was a running design change in motors and the aluminum one just isn't supported anymore. So when they leak, you have to update. There are no parts for the cast iron either, it leaks you have to replace that one too.Ouch, whatever happened to a recall for defective parts?
By the way, I told him $30 was too cheap and gave him $100. I know he has the seal in stock or did the last time I talked to him. I hate that we've gotten to a point where a part this expensive is simply considered throw away by the manufacturer. If you have a good hydraulic shop around they can put a new seal in that motor. I had a dealer tell me I had to replace one so I brought the motor to a shop and for $30 he replaced the seal. I'll give you his address if you want to mail it to him. The guy has repaired several.
I wonder why the dealer needs to program the computer for the new one, i'd have thought it should be just a drop in replacement.By the way, I told him $30 was too cheap and gave him $100. I'd guess the replacement motor is a different displacement. With the SmartFan system, the computer is controlling the flow to the fan motor.I wonder why the dealer needs to program the computer for the new one, i'd have thought it should be just a drop in replacement.
I too would at least try to replace the seal if there was no wear in the bearing surfaces.
