    Found! Generic Bobcat Orange Paint

Looks to me like Rust-Oleum 280135 Allis Chalmers Orange is a very close match... I sprayed some real Bobcat Orange on a test strip side by side with some Rust-Oleum 280135 Allis Chalmers Orange, and I can't really see any difference in color.... About $6 per 12oz can at Menards.

    Towing a dead 743

I found it is impossible to move a 74X without inserting the valve relief tools (Towing Tool). I have made the necessary tools out of two short lengths of copper pipe, I think probably they were 3/8" about 3 or 4 inches long, you can figure the length out by careful trial and error... be sure to...

    742B sputters

A few points regarding 742B Mitsubishi 4G32 engine from my experience..., FYI: 1) I spent days trying to figure out why mine would not run well... even tore it down and checked timing belt etc.! Drove me nuts. Had a nice bright blue spark... everything else was also correct, rebuilt a spare...

Guidance to avoid damaging hydraulics in very cold weather...

I have a nice older Bobcat 742B with low hours, and live in a northern area where we sometimes get temps down to -20F or even -30F in the morning during Jan and Feb. Wondering if there is guidance/wisdom regarding starting up and operating at very cold temps? I would assume one plugs in the...

    Black backing pad replacement suggestion

FYI. Purchase of the Bobcat soft black pad that goes on the panel behind the seat is expensive. I found a nice alternative. Go to an exercise equipment store, purchase one of their black floor pads that go under treadmills etc. (about $25-$30) Look for one that is black with the same sort of...

My experience putting automotive 4G32/G32B engine in 742B.

Well, yes, happy, but as you point out, I spent waaaay too much time on it, and you would never want to pay somebody to do this. If a person can find the non-balance shaft version of the 4G32 block, s/b straight forward. I posted this mostly because a number of people have asked the question...

My experience putting automotive 4G32/G32B engine in 742B.

My experience putting automotive 4G32/G32B engine in 742B. I recently purchased a nice 742B with 1400 hours for cheap, where the 4G32 Mitsubishi engine had spun a big end bearing (a fairly common problem I understand) and the No. 1 rod went through the block. (BTW, it still ran! The No. 1 piston...

Method to measure drive chain wear.... What do you think?

Folks, I wrote this more trying to figure out the right way to measure wear, not so much my own machine (which is in great shape I think). I am not very happy with the "jack up the machine and rotate the wheels" sort of thing, as that is hard to quantify. Wanted to see if there was a more...

Method to measure drive chain wear.... What do you think?

Here are some pictures of the method, see album: http://www.skidsteerforum.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=52&gallerypage=1&currentitem=0&path=DriveChainMeasure Still wondering how I include them in the text of the post.... no help that I can find. Oh well. T.

Method to measure drive chain wear.... What do you think?

Folks, I have a 742B with 1400 hours. Since I had the front chain case cover off while changing chain case oil (under the brake pedal), I wanted to evaluate the condition of the drive chains. In searching this forum, a number of Bobcat manuals, and asking the dealer, I could find no empirical...
