I have a 1988 743 as well.
I rebuilt the engine myself except for work on heads, polishing the journals on the crankshaft, and having the cylinder sleeves replaced with new ones. Which includes having the block deck.
Are usually give it about a 30 second glow plug warm-up and it takes two or...
Here is my engine wire harness diagram.
#6 is oil temperature switch and #7 is pressure switch.
The pressure switch has a normally open for temperature switch and normally closed for hour meter.
The temperature switch is grounded through port block.
I hope I’m helping and not making things...
I’m not saying I know what is wrong with it but what I would do is disconnect the starter, hook battery back up and put a meter to the wires to see which one are getting 12 volts. Then follow those wires to see if there is a short.
My 743 was have the same problem, my cooler by-pass valve was disconnected, passed owner, when I hooked back up the temperature dropped. I think your cooling system is working properly but because you are getting high pressure in your hydraulic system causing it to over heat.
You might check the trans charge pressure switch, which is underneath the seat. When the pressure of the hydraulic system gets too high, it will send voltage to the oil temperature switch, which is in the hydraulic control unit causing it to open and release pressure. If that switch isn’t...
