    L220 starter replacement

Sorry, just saw OP has a starter problem, not a battery problem.

    L220 starter replacement

Little late to reply, but for others' info, my NH 185 has two large terminals, lower left that can be accessed and used to jump the battery after opening the back radiator grille. Don't know how many years or models had this feature.

2010 L185 Blue Smoke Only When Cold

I'm far from being a skid steer mechanic, but I was a lifelong heavy truck/diesel engine mechanic for 30+ years. It's normal for blue smoke during cold startup due to incomplete combustion, different expansion rates of pistons versus cylinder bore, etc, with a cold engine. My NH 185 with the...

New Holland Skid Steer Start Interlock Relay Location

I agree, Rodbuilder, my seat belt switch was getting a little bit unreliable, not completing the circuit now and then after buckling. I blew it out with my air compressor and so far so good.

    Fuel in oil

Might be helpful if you said what engine you have, different diesels have their own common problems that occur with that particular brand. For example, one that comes to mind, before a certain year if the injection pump front seal leaked, fuel would dump into the crankcase. Later pumps had a...

    New Holland L-783 Hydraulic Cap

Did you try to ID the cap on the New Holland website on a computer (not a smart phone)? Last time I was in the parts department at the local NH/Case dealership the parts man brought up the same parts pics and numbers I found at home on the NH website. I was surprised he didn't have a way more...

LS180 Losing power gradually, now won't start

Wow, I think I'd question that. I've got a older non-electronic Ford V8 diesel with a mechanical (Stanadyne) injection pump and standard fee for a pump rebuild and calibration if I remove it, take it in to an injection shop is right at $600.

Raising Skidsteer Lift Arm Without Power

I've wondered about the best route to take if I run into that nightmare also. I figured I'd have to undo the cylinder hyd lines, round up a few empty buckets, hire a small boom truck to come out to raise the arms while I set the boom safety locks. A major pain in the rear. After we bought ours...

LS180 Losing power gradually, now won't start

I'm a retired heavy truck mechanic and unless your engine is vastly different, whenever we pulled a head, we ordered what's called a valve grind gasket set which includes all the necessary gaskets including valve stem seals. If that's available for your engine, that's the way to go. As far as...

    Drive chain adjustment

Thank you, Tazza, that's what I was thinking. Plus my machine definitely doesn't suffer from abuse or overuse. I'll check it again this time next year. Seems like many times shop manuals have to err on the side of worst case scenario which is understandable.

LS180 Losing power gradually, now won't start

Jovol, thanks for posting this pdf shop manual, I definitely saved it on the computer. It appears to be more complete than my printed manual. Hope your head removal goes smoothly.

LS180 Losing power gradually, now won't start

If you have to pull the head, standard procedure would be check cylinder walls for scoring, check valve guides for excessive wear, possibly a valve job depending on the hours which would include checking the head for cracks, and replacing valve stem seals.

LS180 Losing power gradually, now won't start

"So I've gone about the "alternative" method for timing the engine/pump, and my cylinder TDC probe (aka a stick) snapped and is stuck in cylinder 1. " Actually FYI that's not a valid way to determine TDC. You have 2 TDC's on #1 cylinder, TDC exhaust stroke, and TDC firing stroke. Depending on...

    Drive chain adjustment

My 2010 L185 has 1400 hours on it and owner's and shop manual calls for drive chain adjustments/checks every 1000 hours. Both manuals show a spec of 0-1/4" wheel rotation and I've got 3/8" at all 4 wheels. From those in the know, is that 1/8 inch excessive enough to bother with or should I let...

    L785 Bucket control cylinder rebuild?

Any chance you've got a cylinder like this that Mike10 replied about on a post further down?: "The cylinders are called ship in a bottle cylinders. Remove the hyd fitting from the cylinder. Push the rod down until you see the retaining ring, which is at the end of the rod, through the hole in...
