Oh, and I forgot to mention again, a big public Thank You to Old Machinist for setting me up with manuals for this rig, AND for my 610. It makes life way easier with those. I did find in the manuals the code for the plugs that the local parts house could decipher. But they were worried that...
I forgot to mention: I went to the local parts house looking for a cap, rotor, plugs and wires. They don't have a book for bobcat part numbers. I called the bobcat store that is 45 minutes away from me, and they didn't have any of the parts in stock. The plug wires alone were 55 bucks! Two week...
I spend some time with the rig yesterday and today. Took the distributor cap off to look inside, and the rotor crumbled. Screwed around and found that there is back pressure coming out of a vent at the front (back) of the motor. Kind of hard to see, but it is attached to the base of the fuel...
I know that adreneline punch well. Makes you appreciate your time left on earth. Really, really glad you got out. Seemed like a good idea at the time.....
Well, it will be awhile before I know if this was a "good" deal or not. Clearly there is big potential for problems. I"m working on basic maint. issues right now. I'd love to get my hands on the manuals. Let me know how that works out.
I really appreciate all the advice. I just came back from the dealership. Short story is I bought it for 5k out the door, with some new filters. I had my renter go over it with me before the dealing started. He agreed that the intake is a problem, and the slight back pressure in the engine...
As a follow up, it was about 400 bucks getting it fixed at the dealer. It needed new clutches on that side, but the chain was okay. I ended up delivering it there as I was going that way, and they brought it back when they were delivering other machines in the area.
Thanks for the reply. it's still sitting, and now I'm considering a 742. Anyway, its not leaking, as the sheave only has grease in it. If I get enough wood cut today, I'm going to try and pull it apart. Wish me luck.
Ain't the internet great? I live about a mile from the dealer. I came home and did some googling, and there was the machine I was looking at. I assume they will be uploading a picture soon. What is attracting me is the price. I have been reading about maintaining a 742 and it seems like a good...
I am looking at a 1987 742 with a ford gas engine at a local dealership. They want 5500 for it. They just put in a new starter and the battery looks new. It has 5500 hours on it. Was used on a farm, and it looks like the tilt cylinder was recently rebuilt. The only other bobcats I've driven are...
After reading my manual, it's time for some correct terminology. I believe the driven sheave is the problem. I also located the elusive zirc on the assembly, and it's broken off. So, my lack of understanding of proper maint. and not getting grease on this part is probably answers one of my...
With all the snow up here in Minnesota I've been pushing lots of it for hours with a plow mounted on the front. Today while pushing I noticed that the variable speed seemed to be adjusting itself. When I would push it forward for higher speeds, the engine would bog down like something was...
Thanks for the reply Jerry. I've been reading the forum a bit. If i had a heated shop I think I'd give it a try, what with all the helpful people here. But right now I just moved to a new farm and none of the buildings are heated (yet). So, how many hours of shop rate do you think I'll be...
Greetings all. I have an M600 that was upgraded with a 610 motor. Started it up this morning and was moving some snow when I noticed the left drive lever was suddenly loose. There was no resistance pushing forward and then it caught and went full forward and stuck. I shut the engine off and...
