MEL 1179-2 Towing tool for 742

no wheelies but the hill was steep I cleared the cylinders, put in new plugs, said a Hail Mary and fired it up... no clunks or strange noises, just a lot of blue smoke for 20 minutes or so. Good thing too, we just got our first plowable snow last night and she cleaned up the driveway with out...

MEL 1179-2 Towing tool for 742

Thanks guys…To answers DFB about which cylinders have oil in them. It would be the first 3 from the back of the machine. The farthest rear having the majority of oil The farthest forward plug was not oil fouled but dirty. At the time of disaster I was moving uphill of about 15-20 degrees of...

MEL 1179-2 Towing tool for 742

Ouch, What would be a good way to troubleshoot it? Compression check? Or just pull the head? it’s the Mitsubishi 4G32 engine. Has anyone replaced one of these or even know where to get one?

MEL 1179-2 Towing tool for 742

Ok. So I was able to get it into my shop. Now to figure out the main problem. It was running fine as always, suddenly lost power and stalled as I was going slightly up hill. It would not turn over I let it cool down and pulled the plugs, oil fouled big time. Oil squirted out of the cylinders...

MEL 1179-2 Towing tool for 742

Thanks Wayne,, Yes, that may be my only and best option, I’m just trying to clear the driveway at this point. I’m thinking of trying to winch it very slowly to get it out of the way. Do you think this will cause any damage? Another thought is to just disconnect the pump hoses and spew fluid...

    742B sputters

Mine is a Mitsubishi 4G32 engine. It’s a pretty common one so a google search should come up with what you’re looking for. My rough running problem was fixed by replacing the entire ignition from plugs, wires, cap, rotor and condenser and coil. Not sure where the problem was but it smooth now

I just left it on without plugging the in or out. Whether this is a good idea or not I don’t know. maybe the experts on this can help?

I’m glad you caught that 90wt oil in the governor mistake of mine, I sure don’t need another issue to fix right now. I drained it and added the 10w/30 to the top of the overflow plug. Thanks brgdbldr but after spending $130 on ignition parts that seemed to solve the problem I think I’ll leave it...

    742B sputters

Great info guys, thanks. Wayne440, the governor explanation was perfect and I did see that it was low on oil so I added a 90wt gear lube. I have a timing light with a tach so I’ll be able to check the rpms as suggested. Knowing what it’s function is now I can understand how it’s working...

    742B sputters

I can’t really say since there’s no tach, When working it under load I would go full throttle then back off a bit so as not to starve the pumps. Being a gas engine it’s not exactly a powerhouse but it plows snow. I never noticed the governor even doing anything till lately dropping the rpms...

    742B sputters

Thanks for the advise but I did find a cap and ignition kit including condenser. I just came in from the garage after installing new plugs, points, condenser, rotor and cap. It runs smooth now with no sputtering at all. I don’t know what exactly was the problem but thanks SkidRow for the...
