After using my log splitter for a few hours last weekend, the auxilary hydraulic valve has become stuck in the on detent position. I cannot get it to release with reasonable force, and checked to be sure that nothing was blocking the linkage to the valve. I plan to pull the two screws on the valve from the engine bay and disconnect the linkage to see if I can pull the valve apart, but wondered if anyone has experienced an issue such as this before I do so? I use the auxilary hydraulics regularly so I would not expect it to be sized due to lack of use. Thanks for any help and ideas!

It could be possible that the detent mechanism in the valve has become worn and jammed. There are balls and springs in the end cap that hold the spool in the detent position.
That is where I would look first.

Thanks for the reply SR, that appears to be what happened. I pulled the spool out and managed to get the cap off, the detent ball had some rust and pitting, which when in the right position caused it to jam. I will be checking to see if I can buy just the small springs and bb'sfrom the dealer. Should some grease be put in the cap before reassembling it?

The dealer have the springs and balls. A bit of grease is a good idea.
