After having to jump start the machine, I let it run for an hour or so, then shut it off and attempted to restart. No luck. It's a long story why I didn't put a charger on it, but I didn't. I disconnected the battery cables and used jumper cables hooked up to a good battery. I got it started, but the hour meter went to zero. It's been a while since I've done any google searches on the problem, but I didn't find anything to explain what happened. I bought the machine with about 1700 hours on it and I have only put about 150 hours on it. Have any of you good folks had a similar experience?

I have heard of it happening, but do not know the cause. Probably a voltage spike. If your instrument panel has gold trim lines, then your dealer can set the hours as long as you know what it should have.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, my LX665 doesn't have the gold trim lines on the instrument panel. I failed to mention that it's a 1998 model, if that makes any difference. I bought it from the original owner, with all of the papers, bill of sale, and regular maintenance records. It's the only skid steer I have owned, so I don't know much. I'll see if I can get some free advice from the local dealer parts counter guys.
