HEy folks, Picked up a 453 with 1558 hours on it. Pretty good shape for the most part. No windows in, but fully functional. Has a leaking wheel seal which ill be replacing soon (gotta call monday for a seal...then ill try to find them locally also..) Had a few questions that maybe someone can chime in with. Temp guage isnt working..i didnt even get a chance to monkey with it yet.. need to do the basic testing on it to find out if its the guage, sensor or wiring. Like i said, ill work on that before i ask opinions. (or rule out the problem) My biggest concerns at this point are: 1. Best place to get a service manual? 2. How to tell year of the machine 3. How to tell which motor i have? (model number location) I just installed a new fan on it. Seems as though the plastic housing warped a little bit, and got into a fist fight with the fan.. from what ive read (did some creeping on here) it seems to be a problem thta happens from time to time.. so i fixed that issue. haha. I also had a gummed up fuel pickup tube..fixed that too via some research. ( i think it was algea, looked like it to me.. this machine sat around a while) i did some fuel seperation tests, and didnt find hardly ANY water, other than the black slimy crap that was jammed in my line.. so i kinda ruled that as the culprit. Other than those little issues, i have no complaints. My driveway sure looks and feels a lot nicer now! haha the ditches actually CATCH water around here now too.. My machine has the little skinny tires on it..im not to crazy about those, but i cant see me coming up with the money to convert it to wide tires any time soon...tracks would be nice also, but ya....like i said... Oh, btw...imma heavy equipment mechanic (Mainly Caterpillar) so dont be afraid to get into detail..ill get dirty at the drop of a hat! I may not be the smartest, or wisest of em out there (trust me...the guys who been at it for years know more..) but ill give antyhing a dang good shot. Thanks for reading folks, Glad to be part of the forum! -WagZ-

well about the guage, i think its the guage itself. wiring is fine (continuity check) along with attempting to ground gauge. nothing changed. Ive got power at guage and ground.. so i think its time for a guage.

The year, you need to call the dealer with your serial number.
The engine should be a Kubota, it will have a model number on it, probably a D722
