I have recently purchased a 1965 Bobcat 444 with the 15.5 Onan. machine was told to have run last year but was missing fuel pump which had been stolen out of the machine. I purchased this elec pump http://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/12v-in-line-fuel-pump/A-p8144354e that pumps at 5-9 PSI and was able to get the machine fired up after cleaning the carb out. Machine runs but I cant control the idle with the air or fuel adjustments. Is this pump putting to much fuel into the carb and I need a fuel regulator? Machine has great spark with new points and condersor, I checked compression was around 100psi per cylinder. If anyone has the factory settings for the carb or any other ideas to get this machine operating properly that would be great thanks!

I recently bought one of these machines, in basket case condition, for parts.
Was told it had the same problem. When he started it. It would run away with itself.
This happened after it sat awhile.
I haven't touch it, but just looking at it I'm thinking....If I were a mouse or a ground squirrel.....the cowling on that motor would make a pretty nice place to hole-up for the winter. Thus disabling the governor.
Probably wishful thinking (that's what you get for thinking like a mouse) but would sure be a cheap/easy fix if it worked out that way!

Fuel pump pressure for the Onan should be 1.75PSI max.

Thanks for the replys, I purchased a fuel regulator and fixed a binding choke cable and machine seems to be running well with good throttle response, my problem now is that I have no action on the hydraulics, The tanks were both pretty well empty Ive added 40 liters of atf and still nothing. Theres no pressure at all any ideas on what I can do to fix this thanks!

Also to double check the Right lever is the right wheels forward reverse, left lever left wheels forward reverse, the lever on the left behind the left stick is the brake? and I have left middle and right peddles sinse my hydraulics don't work I have no idea what they control. Thanks for your patience im new to this!!

The lever behind your steering lever is for the variable drive. It hydraulically closed the pulley (sheave) on the engine, forcing the drive belt to run farther out on the pulley, sort of like shifting it into high gear. you pedals are left, up and down, center is for auxiliary hydraulic control, right is to curl and dump the bucket. On the left side between the tires there are 2 small pipe plugs, about the same height of the axles. the upper plug is to check the hyd (atf) oil level. remove the plug anf fill it until it runs our the hole. I don't have any experience with a 444 but I know it is very similar to my 600 so I might be able to help some. there are some smart guys on this board that will try and steer you through getting it going. good luck!

Look at your hyd pump and make sure the shaft and coupling are turning. if the are not, you have to find out why. If they are turning the pump should make pressure unless the pump is bad. Another very posible thing id that center pedal, the aux hyd control, make sure its not stuck on. that will divert your pressure to the capped off aux hyd and make the hyd system do goofy stuff like not work or be very weak. There is also a yd filter under the machine that may be plugged. Here is a link (you might need to copy and paste) to a video showing how to change it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IFaT2GSTWA

Thanks I will take a look tomorrow, I see the machine calls for 15gallons I have 10.5 gallons in there right now, would that not be enough to even move the hydraulics?

I opened the tank on the right side while it was running and I can see the fluid cycling back threw into the tank So I figure this means the pump is working? Possible valve stuck open?
I would change the hydro filter and fill it with fluid then block it up good and safe and work things to free them up this way you won't run anything over

Check that center foot pedal. If it is not in "neutral" all your hyd pressure will go to the aux hyd, and not to the other controls. Try moving the outside controls while you play with the center pedal and see if anything moves. I agree on changing the hyd filter. If you need to test the pressure with a gauge, use the aux hyd. There should be two capped off or lines with quick couplers at the back by the engine. those are the aux hyd, put a pressure gauge there and work the center pedal to check the pressure. That will help check if your pump is pumping full pressure, which is low on those old machines, like 1700-1900 psi.

My coupler and splined adapter where it joins the hydraulic pump are broken and splines are stripped right out, bobcat wants almost 500$ to replace the two. Is there any aftermarket options? Thanks!

Found a coupler today for 50$ and ordering splined adapter threw bobcat, another question is I have the middle aux pedal but do not seem to have any extra aux hydraulic lines? Where abouts should they be thanks

Mine are on the left arm sitting in the seat

Not sure on 444 but as I say it's similar to my 600. On the 600 there at the back , above and on the rt side of the engine. There will be two hard steel (not rubber) lines that are capped off. Unless like antfarmer said some one run them down the boom arm already.

Not sure how you were getting oil up to the clutches and recycling through the tank if the "coupler" was completely broken. Did the coupler fail after your "tank" inspection? $50.00 was a good buy……if you have any further problems you can replace with a "lovejoy" coupler for about $100. Be aware that alignment and 'gaps' are critical when replacing the coupler. Improper installation could result in a very short coupler life. Follow your manual closely.

Run the machine up on car ramps in front and pull the foot boards filter is under there order a new o ring for the filter base the other one comes with the filter . Be sure to raise the front of the machine befor you take the filter can off or you will have a mess , ask me how I know. Gearbox
