Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and just purchased my first skid steer. I have a Case 1816 that I just purchased and want to go over everything and get her in proper order. When I got her and was test driving the first problem I noticed was the steering controls are not adjusted right. I had to play with the handles to get her to stop. It seems like the handles are out of sync. I looked into that and it looks like the adjustments are pretty strait forward. She runs strong going forward and backwards but does not stop when you let go of the handles. The other problem is she was very jerky when trying to move her around slowly but I think that is all related. I did have a good scare loading her onto the trailer. With the controls not centering properly she started jumping around and the next thing I knew I was looking at the sky. I was lucky to yank back hard on the handles and disengage the pumps fast. She settled right down but that was a scary ride. I have a New Holland LX665 I use at work for clearing snow But this is a completely different beast. The actual question is how much play should be in the drive chains? With the wheels off the ground I can move all four wheels almost exactly 1" of rotation or 1 tire lug. They all feel the same. I did check the wheel bearings and found no play in the hubs. I don't want to loosen the hubs and take all the slack out with out getting some input. I plan to order a service manual this weekend but right now I just need to get her movable in a safe manner. Thanks for any input
