So i just picked up a bobcat 742 for 1200 bucks. Obviously needs some work but overall i am very happy with the price. I need a new distributor for it (I have also read it could be changed to electronic ? ) Trying not to spend a ton on this machine till i know it runs as well as he claimed. Anyone know where i can find a distributor for this 1.6 ford? I have heard i can use a pinto distributor? Anyone know what years?/ I also knoticed that one of the quick attach lever assemblys is busted up beyond repair, can these be bought anywhere? thanks in advance!

sorry looked a little deeper ad a hundred bucks
I have heard that early pinto eingine parts can be used on this engine. (one thread i found suggested the distributor would match up.) Napa has remans for 60 bucks so might try that route... fingers crossed.

The ford engine is the hardest to get parts for in the bobcats. Whats wrong with the distrubitor?

Well, i dont actually have the machine with me at the moment, since it did not run i decided to have it taken to my mechanic since he could unload it and keep it in his shop. He said that the distributor had a bad bushing in it and would be tough to repair. I have found a few threads that said a 71 pinto distributor would work so may try that. I know the engines are not identical, but looks like they do share alot of the same parts from what i have read so far.....

After some more research, looks like the 71,72,73 pinto or the 77,78,79 fiesta imports share the same motor. Some say the pinto, others the fiesta.

The 742 has a Kent crossflow industrial motor in it. It is similar to the Pinto, Fiesta, Escort and Corsair motors. The Bobcat manual has 2 different distributors listed for the 742. The cap DIAMETERS are different, one has a black cap and the other a brown cap. Make sure you get the right one. I'm not sure if they are interchangeable or not.

The Fiesta distributor will be electronic. ALOT of the fiesta parts WILL NOT fit. I had to use a fiesta long block in my 632, and can say with experience. Most of the Pinto parts WILL work. Convert the distributor to electronic ignition. Youll enjoy not having to worry about points.

Thanks for the info Hotrod! So are you saying the fiesta distributor will work then? What else would i need to do to convert to electronic ignition? Thanks again!

The fiesta distributor will physicly bolt up, but you would need the entire harness and ignition box from it as well. Easiest way is get a pinto distributor and convert it. Ignitor, hot-spark are a couple I can think of that offer conversion kits. Reasonably priced and simple to install. Worth every penny if you ask me.
