I forgot the manufacture of my diesel engine? and, is this engine used in any auto's or trucks.
The reason I ask, thought about picking one up somewhere and rebuild it...JUST IN CASE.

The 4jb1 seems to be fairly widespred, however i'm not sure what the last part of the model # indicates, must be accessories on the motor. Most application just refer to it a the 4jb1 though.
A spare engine, you getting fairly serious...

Not serious at the moment, just wanted to pickup a used one and rebuild over the summer.
I know one guy that lost some good work, waiting for his to be rebuilt.

The only concern I have on these is the bobcat manual say the cranks can Not be re ground.
So if you buy one I'd be looking closely there.

Surly you can buy over sized bearings for them? for my kubota you can get up to .030" in .010" increments. It may be an idea to call around to be sure you can get over sized parts.

I'd have to get the bobcat manual to say it right, but it does say that the crank can not be ground. I'd be trying to find out why, but thats what the book says..

The manual say "the crankshaft has been tuffrided and can not be re ground"
I'll ask the local machine shop if they can be ground and retreated?

Some places do that, they nitride the cranks and grind them to size. The nitride does penetrate the steel about .011" then tapers off. I'm sure there are places that can spray hard facing metal to it then get it machined, but as always there will be a hefty price!
