belt tension: as we know the bobcat belt drive sys has benifts as well as detractors. old school requiried a specail tooll and a fish scale, new school eiser to adjust but but pointer goes bad. no ecomnlcy re buildable and 600 a pop. .note .when removing belt remove tenionser. place in vice clamp with vice grips, squeeze with vice while tapping with a hammer. if flat spotted on curve replace. never seize. you should be able to load spring(while tapping) to the bottom point, factory statetes if new belt bottom out .if used set to 3 oclock. load o crap. if replacing belt(if pull it put new one on) to retirate take it off spin it if brgs bad you will know place in vice collaspe same (that is loaded ) never seise) back part wher pin rides in curve>,probally too much guys sorryif further explation is needed i will post. just dont drop 600.00 on parts you dont need

They sure know how to charge. Thankfully i was able to replace the bearings on mine. It didn't lock up, but it did have ridges from where the belt ran, threw it in the lathe and skimmed the ridges off, works great.
I agree about the old style that you needed a set length bar with a scale to know how manly lbs of pressure are on the belt, especially on a new belt that may need adjusting a few hours into operation to make sure its still right.

i bitch about a three day turn around for parts? let alone the backorder (this we shall not speak of)
wow , $600 is a rip off , the idler assembly is only $300 and some change at my dealer ...................what dealer in what part the country sells it for $600 ................ and how much is that dealers service prices , Bobcat here is pretty cheap as far as equipment goes , $80 in shop and $90 on the road , Catipiliar right now is $127.50 per hour , and $3.13 per mile from and back to their shop , I have seen a lot of their bills and it cost like $700 before they touch a wrench just to get to the job and back to the shop as their shop is in the middle of nowhere ........................ I still have my adjustment bars and scales , the one for 8 series machines is pretty useless for any thing other than the 8 series belts but the 7 series tool is a very usefull tool , it works on all type of belt adjustments .............. that pointer on the adjuster idler is broken more than not and sometimes I still do use the bar and scale to set the adjustment , I do go a little bit more on a new belt , like 3:30 , as I have found that if you don't then you will be going back and readjusting it after a week or so as they break in ................ I am lucky to have the #1 parts dealer in the country , their inventory is massive , if they don't have it and it weighs less than 20 lbs of so they get it for me next day at no charge , if it weighs more you can pay next day and get anything 95 % of the time ,unless it is over 100 lbs then it is truck time and that is usually a couple of time a week , every now and then there will be a factory back order , then Trader Joe picks up from there

A gerni is just a high pressure water blaster, people call them a gerni no matter what brand they are, just like people calling their skid steer a Bobcat, even though its not always white. My water blaster is made locally by a company called Kerrick, it puts out about 1,500PSI so it does the job for me, steam would be far better but its what i have.
It depends on what parts i need, some i can repair or make, but the rest i need to buy. I have a good friend that used to be a parts manager at bobcat, so i got my goodies off him and he would ship them over the pond to me. It worked out to be about half the price from my local dealer. Sadly, i can't get them off him any more, oh well.
I can totally understand why you can't be bothered working on customers tensioners to repair them, its not worth your time. It would be cheaper to just throw a new one at it some times. Parts plus your labour would possibly cost more than a new whole unit.
Parts turn around for my local guys is pretty good. They have a database that links all .au stores together. If its not in stock, they can over night it to their store and you get it the next day (provided another .au store has it).

thanks for understsanding. the replacement versus rebuild, back in the day we would rebuild starters and alt not viable anymore when the cost of parts exceeds replacement let alone labor. i think it may be the man keeping us down.. dont know . calling a cust and explaing is diffuclt (rebuild for three replace for one) is diffuclt concept for old schoolers like me but that is the hand ive been dealt. got no answerers

we live in a disposable world , cheaper to replace than rebuild , time is also an added factor to someone who relies on their machine every day , if the machine is going to be down for 5 days to save a few hundred dollars , when you add in the cost of a rental machine to take it's place , it is cheaper to bite the bullet and get back running

The point is not needed for setting. Pry the tensionor til it bottoms out and release to just a above bottom out. I will agree the tensionor is very pricey, but considering it only takes 15 min to replace, I bet it is still cheaper then replacing a love joy or u joint.
