My son-in-law has the above mentioned Bobcat. He recently had the machine run crappy and changed the fuel filter and that fixed it for awhile. But the problem came back. He is thinking its rust in the fuel tank, but I doubt he has a metal tank. His second thought was someone has tossed something into the fuel tank. Whats the best solution? I know they "polish" fuel in boats (pump out, filter and back in) do they do it with other vehicles? How big a deal to remove the fuel tank and dump and clean if thats the best solution.

Do you suspect the fuel is contaminated? If so, siphon some fuel to see if it is. No sense taking things apart before you know what you are up against. Remember the KISS principal. I once had a problem like this in a gas engine tractor and found several hundred sticks in the gas tank. I finally decided the sticks originally had phosphorus on one end. Someone had dumped a full box of kitchen matches in my gas tank. Never found out who or why,,,,,,,,,,

Removing the fuel tank involves pulling the engine. Is the primer bulb getting sucked flat?
Its possible the pickup tube is cracked or the filter at the end of the tube is glogged. Neither of which means you need to pull the tank out. If you look under the machine there is a palte between the rear wheels. There will be two rubber plugs, one is the fuel tank the other is the chain case. If you remove the fuel tank one (its into plastic) you can drain out most of the crud that may be in there. You will also want to get under the ROPS and remove the pickup tube and replace/clean it.

Can I assume the tank is plastic like the one in my 843? Not steel?
