Yeah I thought the same Oldmachinist but I could not find the other end, until today! I pulled the battery out and there was the other end.Likely it had leak in it and someone ran a regular rubber line in its place.
Common problem with the 743 steel hydraulic lines in the engine bay,they would rub through and being a pain to remove and bronzing not always successful in the repair it was easier to get a hose shop to make up a flexable line.I had only one steel line left in the engine bay of my 743 after having to replace most of them.Yeah I thought the same Oldmachinist but I could not find the other end, until today! Someone has replaced the existing steel pipe and run a new hose under the motor.
