It appears the heavy red wire goes to the alternater and I am tracing the green wire. I cannot find any issue with wires rubbed. Not sure how to test the relays but thinking it might be the internal voltage regulator does that make sense or not?For it to be a dead short you need to have rubbed through a wire somewhere. Trace it back from the starter to find it. Possibly a relay fell apart internally?
There should be a heavy red wire to the alternator, it should be a heavy gauge one. The voltage regulator is actually inside the alternator.... The relays you can 'test' by just moving them around, they are generally all the same.It appears the heavy red wire goes to the alternater and I am tracing the green wire. No fuse blown but it drains the battery ( brand new) in a matter of several hours. I did get the alternator out and will have it tested in the am when I get back to town. Hope it is the problem. With the alternator disconected everything works but the alternator and no drain over night. The alternator was a bit of a pain to get out but I hope I am on my way to getting this figured out. The short, is it blowing fuses?
AHHH it drains the battery, not a direct short. It sounds like you may have a bad diode. No fuse blown but it drains the battery ( brand new) in a matter of several hours. Voltage regu;ator was shot and draining the battery faster as the alternator was charging. Replaced the altertnator and everything is good. I do appreciate your help. It got me going in the right direction.AHHH it drains the battery, not a direct short. It sounds like you may have a bad diode.
If its like that, it will draw power from the battery at all times. It could even be a bad wire and diode from the ignition. If power goes the the exciting connection on the alternator it will drain the battery too.
Glad to hear you had a win!Voltage regu;ator was shot and draining the battery faster as the alternator was charging. Replaced the altertnator and everything is good. I do appreciate your help. It got me going in the right direction.
