Melroe Model?

I recently purchased an old Melroe Bobcat from a neighbor and I'm trying to ID the model. I can't find any ID tag on the Bobcat, where would it be located if it still had one? My guess is its a M-500, only because it has the 2 cylinder Kohler in it, but I need some help. My second question is, if I figure out the model, where can I purchase a service/shop manual for it? I looked around on the internet, but I don't see one for the M-500 (if that's what I got). My last question is, on the 2 cylinder Kohler, where would I find the Model and Serial number on it? The person I bought it from said the motor needed an overhaul, and from some reading, it looks like the Kohler is difficult/expensive to find parts for, so I wanted to look into the cost of a rebuild, but I can't find any numbers on the motor either?? Go to Jim's Small engines. Poke around on the internet. He sells repower kits with modern engines. Regards Bert

Check with Bobcat dealer for the manuals, they may be cheaper than others. They had the service manual a couple years ago. Jerry

Sorry I didn't answer your question. The i.d. label actually a small metal plate is central on the metal plate that is behind your legs as you are on the machine. Usually painted over. Bobcat will tell you the year and model if you can find a number on it.

I'm pretty sure I have the M500. But I was wanting to get some id numbers off the machine to order parts, maybe the dealer can order them with just knowing its a M500. I looked where you said the plate was, I don't see anything, however it has been painted a couple of times in this area. Is the plate I'm looking for, a seperate tag that is bolted or riveted to the machine in the described location? If so, I see two empty holes in the area described near one of the hydraulic lines, tag must have been removed? Thanks for the replies. Randy

Yes it's a tag riveted on. I also have an old M500 I'm playing with. Mine runs and everything works. Just trying to straighten out all the cob jobs. My only issue is when it gets under load it stalls. Not sure if it's a bad carb,weak coil or just needs adjusting. I might be interested in buying some of your parts off your Kohler if you don't use it. Also when I've gotten parts for mine the dealer asks for the serial number. ot sure why. I just bought my manual last year from the dealer though. So they are still in stock. Almost $100 for photocopied pages though. Joe
