I just pulled the V1702 engine out of my recently acquired 743 and found that it has a Bobcat rebuilt sticker on it; s/n E5108. I'd be curious if anyone knew what year this was rebuilt in. How many hours are these engines normally good for before a swap is recommended. Thanks.

There is no set number. If you over heat it, it will crack, lack of maintenance, it will fail too.
If its looked after, the general rule for a Kubota is 6,000 hours before it starts to get a little lazy. It may get tired, but it will still work, just may have less power and harder to start when cold.

I'm not sure this will help you idenify the year it was rebuilt but this is what I have on year of manufacture.

If you are in the market for a rebuilt v1702 (he does others) I went through the same thing on my 743. I do not know how to rebuild one so after doing a lot of searching the best deal I came across was a guy in Ohio but ships anywhere. Shipped to me here down in Louisiana and was the best price. Warranty included unlimited hours and warranty for 1 year. Was real fair with me on the core also. Motor runs new. Let me know if you need his information and I will dig up the paperwork or try to find his web address for you.

Thanks - as it still runs, I probably won't have to go that route. I'm going to do a compression test soon. If I get bored over the winter, I may open it up myself if it needs rings.
