My 873 has the Boss system and I am trying to figure out why the shutdown solenoid is loosing power intermitantly while cranking and only while cranking. Never when in the run position? It seems like it only does this when it is cold enough to need the intake heater. It never did this all summer long. The Glow system is working perfectly, good relay, good wire, good heater. What do you think...Bad relay? Bad Boss?

The way to check the BOSS is to wire up a light or meter to ensure power is constant, if you see it fluctuate you know its a relay or connection to the BOSS, i would doubt the BOSS box is the cause, but it could be.... but the last resort.

Thanks Tazza, I watch the display like a hawk, because as soon as i get three bars of oil pressure, it will stay running. I am an electrician and I have a Fluke that trends. I will try to trend it and see what is going on. Thank you for your help!

uum 3 bars? thats when its running too? it just seems a little low to me.....
How many hours do you have on the clock? i'm just wondering if its the BOSS doing its job in an effort to *save* the engine from running low on oil pressure.

Fresh new motor, new everything including oil pump maybe a new sending unit is in order? do they usually run 4-5 bars? I will get a real guage on it I guess...

I'm not really sure what they should run, but if its a new engine i'd suspect all bars should be lit. I guess it could be the sender, but if it was i'd suspect it would be leaking or giving you random readings.....
