Help Support Skidsteer:

Well finally getting some time to work on My auction buy Scat Trak 1700C. Found a new travel motor, found a new old stock Hyd pump set online, now just gotta tackle the engine. Looks like machine Sat and water got into the exhaust, possibly then someone tried to crank it over as there is a big hole in the oil pan and the engine is locked up. Once I get the engine in the garage and opened up We will see how much is salvageable or possible engine swap.

welcome to the site! Water in the exhaust and someone crankin on it, thats a bad combo, hydrolocked for sure. Hopin its just a bent rod n not the block itself. Good luck man.

Worst case scenario, but not completely off the table. @BKHITECH ready to do an engine teardown? :)

Should have some time off from work coming up so definitely will be opening up the motor to see the extent of the damage and what’s salvageable. Will post some pics.

Well got it opened up and as suspected number 4 exhaust valve was in the open position and appears water found its way in. Now the strange thing is zero signs of water below the pistons, zero surface rust on liners down below, nothing, just black engine oil. Oil pan appears to have blown out, bolts for the section that broke off all were bent and wobbling when I zipped them out. Beat the #4 piston out and crank now turns with the other 3 pistons moving. Has anyone heard of fuel or starting fluid building up in the oil pan and igniting?? I’m just at a loss here of what happened.

I had a carb on a Bobcat 742B tat leaked gas into the oil pan. Since the fuel tank was higher than the carb the fuel just kept flowing into the engine. If I wasn’t in the habit of always checking the oil and sniffing it I could have at best burned out all the bearings and at worst had a fire. Not sure but I guess if the fumes from the gasoline could be ignited from piston blow by to create a small explosion in the oil pan.

If I remember correctly I did some reading about this ages ago and they call it crankcase explosion or detonation, something like that and one of the reasons it can happen is if you crank an engine for a long time, it keeps dumping fuel but it's not burning it and eventually it will blow. Can't say if this is true or not, but might be the case
