It quit when using, thought maybe out of fuel but still showed a quarter. Added fuel, no joy. Replaced rubber bulb pump, changed filter, bled air to pump, cracked injector line to bleed . Still won't start. Tries, puffs smoke. Any suggestions?

Are you getting fuel all the way to the fuel filter and beyond with the squeeze ball? Being you showed 1/4 tank at the time it quit running there may be a strong possibility the pickup tube may have broken off inside of the tank.

That would be my guess, or clogged. However, if you are getting diesel to the injectors after cracking them, perhaps an injector issue? Unless you only cracked the purge bolt on top of the pump?

Is the shut off solenoid working properly? Is the screen in the lift pump clean? Is the fuel good. Good color no water. When turning it over does it sound like it did be it died? Are the glow plugs working?

I'm getting good supply to injector pump. Have loosened injector line and get some fuel there.

Thanks for the suggestions. Have not checked scre e n in lift pump, but will. Tes onothers.

How is the engine Oil? Is there a safety cut off on it for low oils. Just a thought.
What engine is in it? Can the fuel shut off be faulty? Bad fuse or blown fuse. To shut off abruptly sounds like lack of fuel etc. Yet a possible saftey switch that opened could be another issue. Can you try a small squirt of either and see if it fires? NOT alot. And maybe you have already.
