Need to ID #1 cylinder on 853 Bobcat

Looking at the 4jb1 engine from the rear of the Bobcat, which cylinder is the #1 cylinder, the one on the far left or far right? Thanks for helping.

As a rule, cylinders are usually numbered from the fan, or water pump end toward the flywheel end.

Exactly what i was told too, 1 is the fan end, moving towards the flywheel.

When they call the FRONT of an engine the "front" they do it for a reason! You just discovered the reason!!!! The dampener/balancer is NEVER on the "back" of anything, and the flywheel is NEVER on the front!!!!
