So the majority of pins on my boom seem to be rusted in place - i have tried releasing oil over a few days and hitting with a sledge hammer but using any more force i believe will risk bending the arms - so i am just going to leave as is - my question is will it do any harm if they havent been greased for several years i read the manual says it could cause wear - but if they are moving freely on the pivot part is this damage minimal - no noises or sticking when operated goes up and down freely ? Also i do not appear to have a 'metal' cannister type fuel filter with a water trap underneath - it appears in the manual as well as the inline fuel filter - i only seem to have an inline filter which doesnt make much sense to me - the engine is a Kubotaa Diesel i think D1402 i believe

there is a product (tool) out there, I have never used but can see it should work and what it does instead of pushing grease into the zerk you use 30 wt. engine oil . Actuate the hydros several times and repeat till you get freeish flowing oil out of the joints then push what ever grease you want to use in the zerk, if you go down this road let us know what you think of it.

Most applications on a cylinder will have the pin stationary in the lift arm, either with a through bolt or a set screw or roll pin, and have the only pivot point in the rod end that has the grease zerk in it. That keeps it from hogging out the bosses in the arms and prevents things from coming apart.
You say that it operates smoothly without any squeaking or chattering, so I'm guessing that the rod end has grease in it, or enough to keep it free. If you just want to take everything apart and clean it up and inspect, you should be able to push it out with a big C clamp and a socket, after making sure that there isn't anything securing it like a bolt or pin. Some models will have the pins recessed and kept in with snap rings, but those are usually the ones where the pin has the zerk in in. If it won't budge with the clamp, keep a load on it and give a few blasts with an air hammer, that will often help free up stubborn stuck things without having to resort to brute force that often bends up things instead.

Why are you trying to remove the pins. I don't thinkyou can get them out unless you have the boom supported with a hoist or another machine and if you do get them out the way you are trying to do. You will notlike the results as that boom will drop who know how far and could spring the arms. As was said the pin is fastened to the boom arms and the pin does not move the other part piviots on the pin' If it will not take grease let me know and I will tell you how to fix thast without removing the pin

Thanks for all the resposnes - on my machine i dont think the pins are fixed as they have bolts to hold them in place - i am only trying to take them out partially to check them and grease them ? How am i meant to grease them in place as they dont have grease fittings and are totally enclosed when in place ? Also what is a Zirk?

A zerk is a grease fitting. There should be one on the end of those pins and the pin should be drilled for the grease to go to the middle of it where it goes thru another hole out around the pin. You are correct there should be a bolt or pin hilding the pin from coming out> Like i said I don't think you will get themout without removing some of the weight off thearms and if you do have fun getting themback in. On some of those pin the grease fitting is not in the pin but on the part that moves on the pin. If one isn't therelook for a hole where it goes

we call Zirks Grease Nipples in UK! The pins arent drilled and have never had a greasefitting on anywhere - i did manage to get one of them halfway out. They are just hammered through and then held in place with a 13mm nut and bolt. Ive had a good look for holes wherre grease fittings should be and no holes either ? The manual jsut says to grease them every 250 hours and reccomends a graphite grease but no mention of how to do it and no mention of grease fitting locations

Look at a parts diagram for your machine. There is a bearing in there that is why no grease fitting
