So we have this ****** old 753 we got for almost nothing. It is leaking hydraulic fluid. It is leaking from what looks like a breather. You can see it when you lift the cab. It is located down on the cover plate and you can see it if you look between the bars for the control levers. It is red and inside a rubber grommet. Any idea why it would be leaking?

Sounds like the chain case is full. If you look on the very front of the machine on the lower frame you will see a pipe plug in the center of the frame. The oil should only be filled to that level. Remove the plug and see if lots of water comes out or if its all oil. If its all oil then you have a motor carrier seal leaking into the case. Do you add hydraulic oil often?

Yes it is hydraulic fluid leaking from there for sure.

Yes but there could be water in the bottom of the chain case that is why you need to pull the front plug and see if there is water in the case. Water will be on the bottom, oil will be on top.
