i have a bad seal on the rear left wheel. loosened up the large bolt. put puller on it but it doesn't want to seem to budge. thinking about getting couple hyd jacks to put behind it. would 4 ton jacks be enough or do I need to go bigger. thanks norm

Loosen the bolt a few turns, put 2 bottle jacks behind the hub, 4 tonne is fine, pump them up and hit the head of the bolt with a sledge hammer, it will pop off.

A puller on it's own rarely has the power, i just use bottle jacks and a hammer. I have heard of people using just a sledge hammer and beating in the inside side of the hub and they pop off after a few hits. I'd find it hard to get under there and swing the hammer.

If you have an air hammer (under a tenner at Harbor Freight) grind a chisel dull and use that. Easy to get behind the hub and doesn't distort things like a bfh does. Just a couple of short bursts usually frees things up, I'll never use anything else now. Load it with a puller or jacks and let the air do the hard work.

I recently rebuilt a 743B drive tank with new bearings, seals and chains. I pulled the hubs from the axles so I could do the seals correctly. This one sat outside unused for a few years. I needed my buddy's 20 ton press and a whole lot of oxy/acetylene heat to pop the hubs

Finally got it off, seal removed. bearing looks good. axle seems to be solid doesn't seem to be any pitting so ill clean her up and install new seal. thanks to tiaz email and others on here. all suggestions were welcome. had a hard time understanding how it was put together. crystal clear now. 2 4 ton jacks and my buddys 14 ton pullers and couple good wacks on the case where the key way was and she came off. thanks to all of you.
