I found an old Bobcat 751 without an engine. The guy does not know if it was a Kubota or Peugot. Claims the hydraulics are good but it needs tires, a bucket, and or course and engine. He's asking $1500. Probably buy it for $1000. My question is how can I tell what engine was in it. I understand from the forum they turn in different directions and/or mount backwards.

Most 751's came with a Peugot engine. Only later ones came with a Kubota. The Peugot engine was a bit more troublesome than the Kubota, hence likely why yours is missing it's engine.
Is the engine completely missing or is it just out in bits? There will be some applications specific parts that you would require if you were to try to put an automotive application Peugot engine back in. These engines are quite popular in the UK and Europe.
You should be able to verify the engine for sure by checking the serial number.
And yes, if you can get it for $1000, grab it.
Cheers - SR

If it did have ap pug engine, and you put in a Kubota, remember that it runs in the opposite direction ot a kubota.
That price is a steal.

Fond out it's a 1997. What year where the pug's used.
Pukes used in early 90's, 1997 should be Kubota V1903. Double check serial number to make sure, if it starts with 5156 or higher, its a Kubota. Hurry up and buy it!!!!

Bobcat said it's a 1997. No engine at all. Finding a Kubota and all of the drive stuff will probably cost more than it's worth.
