Hey guys,

Was spreading some really wet, heavy pit run the other day and ended up tipping my 2002 T-200 forward and suddenly I was staring at the ground and my engine took off on me at really high RPMs and I couldn't get it to shut off. It finally died and then when I started it again, it did the same thing and was blowing oil out of the exhaust — the whole rear of the machine and back window had oil on them. Couldn't get the controls to unlock before it took off again so I ended up using chains and a comealong to get it back down level on the ground after unloading the gravel in the bucket. Once it was righted, I just let it sit for about 5 hours and then put some oil in it and it fired up again running normally. Of course, it smoked for a bit but now it sounds good.

Next day I changed the oil and while shining my flashlight around inspecting the engine, I noticed this black cap, seal or diaphragm laying back behind the right side of the engine (see pics). Do I need to be worried about this? Did my tipping the machine forward cause the engine to run away or did it have something to do with this piece? Or maybe a combination?

I would really appreciate any help you can give me!

Stace

When the engine tipped forward, it is possible the oil went from the breather tube from the rocker cover into the inlet manifold, feeding the engine.
You are very lucky it didn't nuke the motor, there are videos on youtube of trucks that ran away, they run flat out till they run out of oil, destroying the engine. The only way to stop it is to plug the air inlet with a rag. An engine needs air and fuel, take one away, and it will stop.

We had a duetz in a wheel loader that ran away till it locked up. As tazza said probably got engine oil into the cylinders

Thanks for responding, Tazza. Do you have any idea what that rubber piece might be?

Thanks, farmshop too! I was obviously relieved beyond belief when she still ran after this experience. Just seems weird that it did this just by tipping it forward. Machines tip forward all the time!

I'm glad your machine is ok. But why didn't you simply lower the arms back down when it tipped forward? That would have put it back on its feet in a matter of a couple of seconds.

I have no idea what that rubber piece is, hopefully from something totally unrelated, never seen one before.

The oil fill cap? No, it's too big and if it went to the cap, it'd have to have a hole in it to fit around the plug. Let me know if I've misunderstood what you're saying.
so lets drop back and punt. she went over her tip parameters started drinking oil and ran away. its a deutez built badass. change the oil and run it . ident of rubber piece most likely did not come from eng comopnets , would have to been external. and I can think of none, ? possibly a timing cover plug

That rubber piece looks like the diaphragm out of the pcv valve
