Hi I just recently bought a Hesston SL30 Skid steer. It has a diesel 40hp. Isuzu engine. I cannot find any information on this piece of machinery. My main objective here is to locate an 'operator's manual'. I've searched the Internet for the last two days, including 'Ebay' with no luck. The reason I posted on the Bobcat forum, excluding the fact there is no 'Hesston' forum, is during my two days of searching I came across some info. on controls that the 700 Bobcat had that my Hesston has, a third pedal. I had no idea what the center pedal was for until I read the article on the 700 Bobcat. If no one here can help me on this matter, Could someone provide some basic information. I've never been around a Skid steer until a couple a days ago. I might add there is plenty of info. online about safety, and I've spent hours absorbing these facts. Apparently this brand is extremely scarce. I just need to know if there is a general guide concerning basic operation and maintenance, excluding safety, there is plenty of that info. online thankfully. I read where skid steer diesel engines used basic 10w30w motor oil. I thought diesel engines required a special oil? While on fluids is there a universal hydraulic fluid for these machines. I'm aware that all fluids, cooling, Hydro., & lubricating can very depending on the region you live in, that I can handle. I want to know basics, what to use or not to use, covering anti-freeze,hydraulic fluid and motor oil. Concerning basic operation, this unit moves by control arms on each side, boom & bucket is pedal controlled & final drive is by chain. Is there a way to check for chain wear, stretch? Thanks in advance for any info. or link you may provide. I won't be back online till tonight if someone has any questions, once again thanks if your still reading this far!

Wow, that's a comprehensive question list! Good luck with the Hesston (isn't there an implement dealer out of Hesston, KS?). I'll just address the diesel engine oil: I think most folks use 15W40 diesel grade, unsure of the API spec on it. I use Shell Rotella, but I think Mobil Delvac is pretty much the same stuff, same 15W40. :-) ---Bobbie-G

Thanks bobbie-g for the suggestion, I never put the two together. That is where the machine was manufactured. After Googling Hesston,Kansas I did get a couple of hits. I'm not familiar with 'AGCO', it's apparently an equipment dealership. They seem to have a little knowledge on my skid steer, so I'll go that route. I do have one more question, on this same search I found that a member on this site, "jrykpp" was searching for info. on this machine also. Unfortunately it was over 8-yrs. ago. Is there anyway I can make contact with this person in hope that he can provide me with information he may have found. If this is not against forum rules, what steps must I take to contact him? Thanks. And Thanks again to bobbie-g for replying to my questions. I didn't expect to many reply's, I believe I have a rare piece of machinery that is no longer manufactured and parts & info. may-be hard to come by! 4Hoofs..

Well, let's see if I can get this right from memory..... First, you have to log in, then at the top of the page, go to "member list". Search on jrykpp or just scoot down through all 200+ pages, then click on Jrykpp when you find it. That will bring up his/her info page, although not everyone includes their email adr. I may have missed a step, but if you poke around long enuf, you'll probably get there. :-) ---Bobbie-G

A google image search brought up the cover of a parts manual for the SL30 which links back to AGCO and can be found at this link .
Sometimes office / phone support won't have any knowledge of things prior to the latest and greatest, so having a reference point can help.

Thanks guys, I found 'jrykpp' registration sheet, he left no contact info., so that's a bust. I assume he is still an active member, so if I were to leave a "contact me" message on one of his old threads and should he 'login' is it a greater possibility he may see that I would like to contact him. Also, I tried 'flyerdan' link and received an error, but it is the weekend, so I'll try again Monday. Once again, thanks again for your input, should I come across some helpful details on this machine I will definitely leave a post to hopefully help someone else! 4Hoofs...

I checked the link to make sure I didn't bork it somehow, it works for me still.
The part number for the book is 700000724 ; if you highlight it and right click "search Google for" the first result will be the AGCO Page that I linked.

Thanks 'flyerdan'. I Googled the number and found the web page for the parts manual. I will definitely contact them tomorrow. Thanks for the help, it's a start for a beginner that's never operated one before. 4Hoofs..
