belt tension

Good evening Hydra mac 8a. I finally got all the drive between the pumps back together and put on a new belt from the engine to the pump pulley. The book says 5/8 deflection with 10 to 12 lbs pressure. At high rpm it really deflects on the top side. has anyone ever watched the belt with the seat out of the way ? With the old belt there was a small shiny spot on the top edge of the fuel tank. So maybe this is normal ? Thanks , Lowell
 
I think belts will deflect somewhat when moving if they aren't super tight.
I'd stick with what the manual said for tension. Just remember, after it beds in, it will stretch a little bit, so you may need to tighten it up again to get it just right.
