I would think in hot climates straight 30 would be ok most anywhere else either 10/30 or 10/40 should be fine.

I'm in ohio. 1400 hours on the machine.
Synthetic, high mileage, or conventional oil?

well I like to use conventional and just change it sooner than required, I do mine like at every 250 hrs. and being in ohio it does get cold enough there I would use multi-weight oil. most likely 10/30 if you have no oil burning issues. I will mention that 15/40 diesel oil will work too. It just has additives that gas engines does not need but will not hurt anything.

I assumed that when you wrote it had a contentinal engine it was a gas burner, wrong! 15/40 diesel oil would be best for a engine .
