Hello all, Ive been reading on here and other forums about my new to me 863. Im looking for anyone that has experience with it. Below is my biggest priority right now, just trying to find the leak and then im going to do the timing belt. Im good on both of those issues but im trying to locate the temp sensor as mine is not working and does anyone have an idea on changing hydraulic filters without draining my tank ? it looks like the as soon as I screw the old filters off fluid is going to keep pouring out. Photo attached just for a good laugh as I expected it to be dry in there and was just looking over things. The drain was clogged up and I pulled over 5 gallon of nasty fluid and water out

If you are talking about the in-line filters, I always have an assortment of caps and plugs handy to block off hoses while changing anything.

The fluid will not just poor out since it should not be under pressure. But if you leave them open the oil will slowly keep coming out.

Do you have Two screw on filters you are talking about? You should also have Two in-line smaller filters too. If your hyraulic tank is full it will pour out when you un-screw the large canister filters, Yes.
As said above, buy a set of caps & plugs. They will come in handy for this and anytime you change a hose, pull the drive motors, ect.
If you are changing the timing belt change the Drive belt too!
Check your chaincase oil too...
Look at #23 in picture...I think that is what you are looking for.

Thanks for the quick replies. I do have the two screw on filters. I just picked them up yesterday and plan to change them tomorrow. how often do I need to change the in line filters ? And probably a stupid question but is there a spot to check the chain case oil or just take off one of the top access panels ?

Change or clean the In-line ones when you change screw on ones or entire Hydraulic fluid. As far as Level, the very front ,center should have a bolt or Large Allen head. That is for checking it on Level ground. Otherwise , yes open a access panel to see inside. Remember water will be on the very bottom .
Keep us posted.

Yea It should be dry under the side cover. There should be little drain holes on each side of the chain case at the rear that would drain that area but it gets plugged up with gunk. You can clean it out behind inspection cover behind rear wheels. Could be hose, control valve or the drive motor leaking. If you've not already done so, lift the cab up and look around.

Got the oil changed. Was going to do the hydraulic filters after pressure washing everything but im going to wait to borrow my buddies steam Jenny because my machine just wasn't cutting it. I did open up the timing cover to inspect the belt. The previous owner had two of these machines and he states one has a newer timing belt but he's not positive on which one. I'll attach some pictures to get your advice on it. Belt looks good but does appear to have some heat wear on the smooth side and a line from the tensioner pulley.

Also, from what I've read I was expecting to have to remove the security bolt to get the timing cover off but I did not so im assuming someone has been in there before unless I was mistaken on where that security bolt was. Just two 10mm bolts to remove the cover on mine

I would replace that timing belt. Cheap insurance. And a fairly simple change. Yes, it should have had the one different lock bolt for the cover (i'm trying to remember what it looked like, it was years ago...scratching my head still...sorry) A Star or Torx head bolt....
You need a belt tensioner gauge tool, for the timing belt. I bought one for $150. I think they are $185 now. See picture.
Keep us posted.

I seen a few kits that come with the timing belt tension gauge. I see your idler/tension pulley is smooth. Mine has a groove dead center. Did your factory one have the groove ?

Yes it did, see attached picture before belt change. Might have been a Bobcat item?
Pics of my old belt too.
I don't remember any kit coming with a tensioner...nice..

Thanks for the pics. so pretty good chance mine is original at over 3k hours. I'll order the replacement kit.Hpow many hours were on yours when you changed it out. Have you had any luck finding a good manual for yours ? only ones I can find online you have to pay for and was hoping to find a free digital copy somewhere
I wS unable to find my hydraulic leak the other day after the oil change and fuel return line replacement. which is odd considering the amount of oil I had in the belly.

When I bought my 863 it had 5,900 hours!
Some was pushing their Luck. I found a few copies I printed but not the actual Good Manual you need. ( Only Service Manual) You can try looking on the Manual forum on here, maybe someone put one there? Otherwise E-Pay usually has some for hard copies.

I won a Borroughs BT-33-73F belt tension gauge on HI Bid for 22.50 plus shipping that wasn't much. It is the same as the one that comes in the belt kits or a OTC 6673 and cost way less. Google search to see what you can find. You could see what your local Auto Parts stores have. Some will loan you one or rent out one. If you don't use one often that would be the way to go. Also check with local mechanics you might find one or a bud that has one.
