    853 electrical problem

My 1996 853 has an intermittent problem that is starting to become a big problem. Sometimes when I turn the key on the system appears dead. No computer, no lights on the panel behind the seat, nothing. If I continue to start with the key I can hear a click from the motor area, but that's all...

    853 steering adjustment

I believe that I just found the related text in the SM. It concerns adjusting Wheel RPM Left compared to Right, full forward travel only. This would probably be the adjustment as having to exert more left control lever forward would increase the Left RPM to equal the Right. It appears that...

    853 steering adjustment

Let me back up here for a moment. The hydrostatic pump has a servo spool valve for the neutral steer adjustment. That is connected to the control arms with cables. It's a mechanical linkage from the steering levers via cables to the neutral spool valve, if that answers the original question.

I have the mechanical. Just cables.

    853 steering adjustment

I've just removed the 853 engine, hydrostatic system and fuel tank. I replaced the two o-rings on each neutral steer spline and shaft assembly (which was a very easy job BTW), repaired the fuel tank and reinstalled the whole thing. The neutral steer assembly leakage problems are corrected, the...

    Propylene glycol vs ethylene glycol

Thanks for the info, green it is.

    Propylene glycol vs ethylene glycol

My system is currently drained because we've pulled the engine and hydrostatic pump assembly. When I refill it, I'll probably use the more common ethylene, as long as it doesn't have any affect on the radiator or system. From what I've investigated it should be fine, but I wanted to run this...

    Propylene glycol vs ethylene glycol

My 1996 853 has a placard in the engine bay stating that the only approved antifreeze is propylene glycol and to never mix or use ethylene glycol. All the antifreeze at O'Rielly's, for instance, is ethylene glycol and it is supposed to be compatible with any type of antifreeze or system. My...

    853 Sundstrand Hydrostatic Pump

Quite possibly a leak there running down back of pump. Am in process of building the engine removal bracket to pull engine/pump assy. Will know more after the removal. I think the orings are a good bet.

    853 Sundstrand Hydrostatic Pump

Can't see any obvious wear, but this is definitely too much wobble. Checked the service manual and it appears that there are several o-rings, etc. on the spool. Don't know if that would contribute to wobble.

    853 Sundstrand Hydrostatic Pump

Just added a photo in the gallery section showing control arm and spool I'm referencing this question to. File is called 853 Sundstrand Hydrostatic Pump.

    853 Sundstrand Hydrostatic Pump

This question concerns the right side of the hydrostatic pump as determined by sitting in the operators seat facing forward. The right control stick is cable attached to the neutral adjustment bracket, which consists of a control arm (the horizontal bracket) and the Spool ( the vertical rod that...
