open up the back of the loader and the hydraulic tank is right there on the bottom and in front of that is the fuel tank. on the very back of the hydraulic tank hangs the two hydraulic filters and in the right corner their is a can about the size of soda can. fuel line in and through top and out of bottom. in the middle of the can is a sensor with a wire that I could trace back to the ignition key and tapped to a wire from there to the main harness on the engine. what is the can for? the bottom of the can is made to take off. I was thinking a fuel filter maybe? also on this old skidder their is no fuel gauge. sound right?

Could it be a electric fuel pump? I know a few guys that use electric pumps when the Onan's fuel pump either goes out or they want fuel pressure when they turn the key on. feel it when you turn the key to on (with out starting it), if it's a pump you should feel it vibrate or hear it hum. I also think you might want to re post this in the Gehl section, you will find more folks with knowledge on Gehl's there.

the only electrics that run to it is a sensor. but i will check for that. thanx

If there is a "sensor" on it it may be the sending unit for hyd filter restriction. When your hyd filters are getting dirty there is a warning light up by the key that will come on. That sensor should work on a ground, check to see there is no power there first (just to be sure it's not hot) and if there is not, ground it out and see if your filter warning light comes on. Then you will know if it's for the filter light.

each hyd filter on the back has a pressure switch sensor on it. this is definetly a fuel can of some sort just not sure what it is for exactly. would they have run a fuel filter with a pressure sensor to shut down on high restriction? it does run to the ignition. could it somehow be a fuel level sensor? the can is mounted vertical at the same exact height as the fuel tank.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas. My brother has had a 2600 for a long time and I think I'm pretty familiar with it but his don't have anything like that. Closest he has is his fuel pump is sort of similar to what you describe. Where does the fuel line go to if you follow it both ways from the "can"?

from the tank to the can. from the can to an inline fuel filter and then the fuel pump mounted on the side of the engine. then to the carb. I will take a pic and put it up

it is a fuel filter. not sure why their is a sensor on it. the bottom unscrews off and out drops a filter. with the cap comes a magnet in the center that when the cap is screwed back on the bottom comes in contact with a plastic ball. which pushes it up and allows fuel to flow down past the magnet and through the filter to the pump.

Glad you figured it out. I was thinking, I seem to remember a couple years ago hearing about some kind of gimmick with a magnet with power to it that was supposed to do something like align the molecules in your gas to get better mileage and more power when it was used. Maybe it's some kind of thing along that line. Our 2600 just has a generic $2.00 gas filter from a part store, and seems to last forever. I see your other post about the fuel gauge, I havn't ever seen one.

parts list shows it as a fuel pump. it has a filter in it. I don't know how the pump works with just the one wore run to it but that's what the manual even shows. there is a fuel pump on the engine shroud too. its been repowered by a dealership with the same engine as before just newer. so im thinking that the original pump stopped working.
