Hi, This is my first post. I live on Orcas Island in Washington State's Puget Sound. I have run a woodworking business here for abut 32 years. Last month I bought a case 1830 skidsteer to replace a 26 hp Kubota I was using as a forklift on my 10 acres on the side of a mountain. The kubota had clamp on bucket forks and two bad things. Load was way too far forward and could also I could not see the forks during operation. I use a forklift as we have a bandsaw mill and saw old beams into boards to use in our tables, doors, cabinetry and furniture. I have also branched out to sawing lumber packages for the contractors here doing rustic interiors etc. Ok after I bought the machine on CL I found that on my hilly ground I needed to fix the brakes as with the forks down it still rolled after I got off, running or not. Well to my surprise when I lifted the floor, there were no brakes at all. Everything was stripped off. Backing plates, hubs, drums, shoes. I had one rod and 2 springs. Tried some used parts places and new Case places for parts but most parts no longer available and very expensive for what was. I am a long time shadetree mechanic. Old ford trucks, antique tractors, one lung hit and miss engines etc. I found some 1 1/4" keyed hubs online and mated them to '99 honda civic rear brake rotors. Next, I fabricated brackets to hold mechanical lever operated brake calipers commonly used as parking brakes on hot rods, 4 wheel drive trucks etc. They came from Wilwood engineering. Hubs were 50.00 each, rotors from Napa were 26.00 each and the calipers were 93.00 each. A week ago I was doing final adjustments on brakes and dialing them into sync, but had to quit to go to a scheduled doctor appt on the mainland next day. Well, my 'overnight procedure' ended up being six days in the hospital after open heart surgery. Got home last night and now face a month on the couch. I am very excited about the project, so I figure I would join this forum and learn more about my new skidsteer from others as I mend. You can only re-watch Gold Rush so many times. Here are some specs.... 2800 hours and looks it. Lombardini 3 cyl aircooled diesel. Starts easy, very powerfull and clean looking professoinal installation. Came with forks and buckett and a nice D100 backhoe.
