You install an open centre control valve on the splitter and engage the hydraulics in the machine. It should lock into detent when you move the right stick all the way to the right.
This way oil will flow all the time but you control what direction and how much goes to the splitting ram with the control block.

Is the detent pressure/flow released like most farm tractors? If so, you may want to set the pressure relief in your wood splitter control so that it is lower than the one in your main control, so that the right lever does not kick off every time your wood splitter cylinder stalls.

If the detent is in good shape, it shouldn't kick out anyway. I run my backhoe attachment and it doesn't kick the lever across on my 743. Worst case, an occy strap around the lever and back to the cage works.

Cool. The bungy cord trick was what I was thinking if I ever get into the same situation with the 440B (no detent).
Right now, with the splitter that we have, if I flip it into the upright position to use it in stationary mode, I can reach into the cab to operate the right stick.
