So I have been wondering for some time now what fuel specs are ACTUALLY REQUIRED for my S510. The manual says "Ultra low sulfur fuel defined as 15 ppm MUST be used". The placard on the machine says "use low sulfur or ultra low sulfur fuel ONLY". The engine manual states "Since KUBOTA diesel engines of less than 56 kW (75 hp) utilize EPA Tier 4 and Interim Tier 4 standards, the use of low sulfur fuel or ultra low sulfur fuel is mandatory for these engines, when operated in US EPA regulated areas". I do not believe the engine has any catalytic or DPF like some true tier 4 engines. I would think since the placard says low or ultra low, either would be fine. My real question is will high sulfur, off road diesel hurt the engine? No DPF or catalytic to clog. I can use CF classification oil for use with high sulfur fuel. The way the engine manual reads I kind of think that is a "suggestion" to satisfy the interim tier 4 compliance. The reality is I am operating off road in a farm setting, my tractors all use high sulfur and I do not really want to have 2 tanks or pay a buck a gallon more for the road use tax. Anyone have any knowledge on this matter? Comments would be appreciated.
