Can we get an area of this site that we could call shop and tools? I and others have plenty of offerings that would help out the general population in their day to day endevors, and possibly save some guys some cash. I have noticed that there are several areas of this site that have no traffic at all and we could possibly use some of that space. This site has saved me hundreds of bucks on my restoration and I would be willing to help out somehow with some cash for the cause. I also am sure that Taz, Jerry and the old machinist could chip in a couple grand each for the cause. no no no just kidding just kidding. good thing I don't live close to these guys right now. No seriously, I think that would be a great addition to the site. thanks for your concideration

Skiddy - i just moved this post to the correct section. The person to talk to is owensge, he is the owner of the site. Ken, Bobcat_Ron and myself *try* and keep order in here :)
LOL i wish i had a few K to throw around, damn women seem to take it all from me! Ok, that sounded way less dirty in my head, but you know what i mean.

Skiddy, every time you click on the ads on the site I think the owner makes a few cents which in time must add up, not sure how much though or if all of the ads pay. jerry

Exactly, the adds help but still don't cover all the costs. Every little bit helps though.

Skiddy, what do you want to put in the "Shop and Tools" page / area? I can create a new page, but I need to know what kind of information you want to put there. FAQs, articles, etc.
Thanks

Well I would guess that 99% of us on this site have some sort of a shop that we work out of and maintain. New tools are coming out all the time and help for those that are trying to aquire new skills to maintain their skidsteers, such as welding, light machining, One discussion I would like to find out more on Is what has proven to be the best way to heat a shop. Lots of discussion could be held on welding techniques and tools. Pretty much just a general shop discussion area where anything shop would be on topic. I don't know maybe the fellas would just like to leave it as is to save space, and maybe it wouldn't get used much. Although I havn't tried yet I see that it must be becoming fairly easy to post pics to the site. that would also be helpfull. I used to frequent a site that had alot of shop talk as well as the main theme and they had an area that those that could, had the ability to donate a 20 spot to the site. purely voluntary with no additional bennies. You would be surprised to find out how many folks will offer the owner monitary help to grow a site that they like. I don't know. It may or may not get used.

I can see that being interesting, something like *workshop talk*. No matter how many tools we have, we always want more :) there is always one that you would never be without, i think i have at least 5! Lathe is number one!, plasma cutter, band saw, MIG and stick welders, and the trusty angle grinder never gets a mention these days.
Mag drill is next on the list i think.... Got 2 bobtach's to drill the main pivot points out on.... Fun times....

Ho wto heat a shop seems like a great place to start. Skiddy, I built a 2400 spq foot shop last year and have just completed my first winter, western canadian cold one. I think the most comfortable heat going is radiant heat in my opinion. I think the in floor is the nicest, but have some friends who say it takes a while to re heat once you open a big door or something. I sued the radiant heat tubes. I used a 150 000 btu up on the main cieling with a 40 foot line of pipe. I also put in a 65000 btu unit under the loft but never turned it on. The big one was excellent this winter. Very happy with my choice.

I have the tubes in my floor to but don't have them hooked up yet. 2400 sq feet with 18 ft ceiling and 3 overhead doors, Currently heated with a 24 by 30 barrel stove. Works good but looking forward to the day the floor are warm to. Fellow that put the 7 loops in told me it would be marginal without some other heat if the doors were open too much. But other say it feel warm faster because the objects are heated, not so much just the air that rushed out the open door.
Guess we'll see. Btw I'm in northern Ontario.
