I had a problem, and then I solved it myself, so I'm not sure if this is the right spot, but here ya go: I had problems with the battery charging on my 1994 853. I got into the engine compartment, and finally snaked the old alternator out. It was caked with dust and dirt, so I figured that's why it wouldn't charge. I assume this was the original unit from 1994. Anyway, I took the old alternator to Autozone. They matched me up with a remanufactured "DL7127M". The original is supposed to push 55 amps. This new one pushes 63 amps, and it matched up almost perfectly with the old mounting brackets. I just had to make a slight adjustment to the tensioning arm/bracket, and I was in business. You do need to make a small wiring harness up for this. There's a plug you can buy that fits the blades on the alternator itself. It's about $3. Then you just put the connectors on the plug. The old alternator has connectors on the back and what I believe to be a small condenser. I removed the condensor--it didn't seem to anything on the new unit as I assume the new unit already has one built in. If you hook the wires up one way and start the machine, it will keep running even if you turn the key off, so you need to make sure you've got it hooked up right. I just used a male and female terminal for each connection in case I got it wrong the first time--which I did. I had a 50/50 chance, ya know? I hooked the wires up the right way, and the machine shut off with the key immediately. This particular unit took a few minutes to start charging. I think it had to wear in or build up a charge or something. It started out barely above 12v, but by time I let it run for a while and build up, I was pushing 13.2v with all the lights on, and 13.6v with nothing on by my digital voltmeter, so I think everything is fine. This alternator has a lifetime warranty, too, and it only cost me $50! I shudder to think what it would have cost to get an original alternator from Bobcat. Just thot I'd share this in case anybody ever happens to have an alternator go bad. I've run the machine probably 10 hours since then with no problems, and by the display, the machine is charging fine.
