We have a 743 that makes a loud clattering noise in the trans area under load driving. Drives fine slow & on flat ground but have to ease back on forward levers to go uphill without noise.
Front 2 trans covers are off. Oil was low & milky.
Axle bearings feel ok but one has slight end play.
Final drive gears seem to have no movement by hand.
Not sure what to remove next.
Also can you pull the front off the pump to get the forward pump mount off to replace the trans cover properly, or is that a big deal?
Any help appreciated

check those u joints between the engine and pump. ,they usally get neglected (never greased) and fail.

Cant feel any movement in the U joints by hand but it is hard to get to without removing hard lines
If they were failing youd think they would be noisy all the time? or based on RPM? Not just under max drive load.
My gut instinct is its something in the drive system
Pulled a rear cover off a drive gear case, cant see damage to the gear but it does float sideways, is this normal?

Check to see if your chains are stretched. Also look for wear on the sprockets.

No, not normal.
