Hi all. New here. Thanks in advance for any advice. Have a bobcat 453 that the left side rear drive just locked up today. Its been runnin normal but today heard a slight chain slipping sound. Then the drive would not move forward or back. All others are fine. Cant get a repair manual for 2 weeks and dont want to just take everything apart. Any guidance would be very appreciated.

I'd start by blocking it so the wheels are free to turn. Check that left hand side that both tyres move the same amount forward and back. It sounds like your drive chain or gear may have broken. See if both wheels rotate about the same amount, they won't be exactly the same but should be close. You can check the other side for a guide.
This is all done with the machine not running of course, its just to check that the chains are still connected.

Thanks for the reply. So none of the wheels will turn when the machine is off. The other three wheels will turn when the skid is on and drives are engaged, but the locked wheel will not turn. I suspect a chain to be broken but dont know how to get to it. I leaned the top back for access but still cant find the chain. Is it underneath? Thanks

See if there is a steel plate on the outside between the wheels. Im a N/H owner but that should be similar. Mike

Thanks Mike. I pulled the plate and there is a only a hydraulic assembly inside. There is a larger plate that runs the length of the bottom in the center. Could this contain the chain? Thanks Dan

In the center of the machine or in the center of the chain case. the chain case runs on each sude of the machine and is about 8 to 10 inches wide . That hydwaulic assembly is probably the drive motor. there is a chain running from that to each wheel. Mike

Let me know your serial number and if my service manual covers it I can send you some scans of the pages you need. It does sound like a broken chain or sprocket.

Some scans would be great thanks. Serial # is 515011703. If you can post is great or email me at [email protected].
I sent you a email with a pdf file of the scanned pages on the chaincase and the parts lists. Its a big file so hopefully your email provider lets it thru. Let me know if you don't receive it.

No email. I get some pretty big files regularly so it shouldn't be a problem. I can send you an email and then you can respond to mine, if thats possible. Sometimes that solves the issue. Thanks! Dan

Your provider refused it as spam so you'll have to send me a email or add me to your list. You'll need to replace the at with @ in my email address before sending. I do this to block the email phishing programs. shermandon at egyptian.net

Ok so stupid comcast blocked your IP for whatever reason. And thats a whole big deal to get taken off. If you can send it to [email protected]. Gmail should have no problem with it. Sorry for the run around. Thanks a bunch again.

Alright so thanks to the diagram was able get into the chain case and get the old chain out in about 30 minutes. I was indeed broken at the link. Got a new one on order and should be here in a few days. Oil in the case was lookin kinda low. Any idea on how much its supposed to contain? Thanks Dan
