I have a 463, I have been working on it for the last little bit as time permits. On this model there is a 3/8”-1/2” L bolt that looks like it should spring out when the cab is lifted and engage with the 1/4” plate of the frame, im assuming as a safety.

Mine isn’t engaging. It looks bent. Anyone ever service these or swap them out, do I need to remove the op. cab?

Is it even safe to lift the cab without this mechanism functioning?

My 2 cents. I'd not work under the cab if there was no lock. That's a lot of weight if something goes wrong. Not sure if it's bent, but those often lock up due to no lubrication. Might want to spray the heck out of it with lubricant and move it back and forth.

Good advice. If I can’t get it to free up I’ll use some straps. I’ve smacked it with a hammer but haven’t sprayed it down yet.

I have not been working under it. I’ll open the rear access door, and work from there, and if I’ve needed the cab up, I’ve just worked from the other side. Honestly, I don’t know if I’d want to work on it even if that safety bolt was engaged

My 731 originally had no cab tilt, it was a lift off. I added hinges and then fabricated a couple of cab supports that hook on the frame and bolt to the cab. In this fashion the cab can't move either direction; it's fixed in the vertical until I'm ready for it to move.

I attended a funeral for a guy that the cab came down on him. It needs to be safely blocked or locked

zooming in on the pivot area there's a rubber bushing that looks deteriorated allowing movement forward(?) that puts the pin out of alignment with the locking hole. I'd address the alignment of pin to hole and then move forward if that doesn't fix it.

It might be possible to correct this "UP misalignment" with a cleverly added partial pipe/pivot support that aligned the frame and the cab by being sectioned to where the frame had a support area only when the cab was lifted. It could float on the worn bushing when the cab was down in the running position.

Thanks for all the thoughts and ideas.

The pin is slightly bent. Going out to investigate and trouble shoot and will let you know what I find out / come up with.

OK so here is what I found. I was able to free up the bolt initially and it would pivot forward and backward but not 100%, maybe 50-60% thus not engaging the hole cut into the lower frame. I ended up hammering it out backwards. I assume it shouldn’t look like this…

Maybe someone swung up the cab heroically and the force coupled with the spring lock action was enough to bend this.. although that seems like it would be wild. This is a 15mm thick piece of steel. But something had to give.

I was going to try to heat it up with OA and bend it back..

Bobcat still has that part in stock for $10.99 + shipping. It’s usually free shipping on orders over $99 so I just always stock up on maintenance parts to get free shipping.
If you look up the part number, 7351071, in the parts catalog it shows a photo. Verify the part number that I provided.

Hey thanks, that looks like it’s the right pin. How did you track this down? Any idea if the spring is still sold or how to find that?

Ok, sorry I figured this out. I punched in the SN and a local diagram came up with several parts in that area and related. I was able to find it. Many thanks. I’ll be able to feel much safer with the cab up!

Be careful ordering parts from Bobcat, I ordered a $10 gasket, it came in a 6" X 6" envelope and showed up a week after ordering - so no expedited shipping. They hit me for $35 shipping. Their excuse was that's what FedEx charged them.

OK I am just posting this for anyone following this in the future. It does seem that both this latch pin and spring are currently available, through Bobcat and others.

LATCH PIN no. 7351071
SPRING no. 6593390
