Can you adjust voltage output?

I have a 2002 JD 250 with 330 hours on it. I bought it about 8 years ago from a guy I knew and at the time he told me the voltage gauge seemed to be inaccurate. The needle is just barely in the green at idle with the parking brake on, and goes to just barely in the red when the brake is released. I've used it this way all this time, and just relaced the original battery last year. Never had a dead battery or any other electrical issues. I tightened the belt, but that didn't change anything. Any ideas? Is the voltage regulator adjustable to put out higher voltage? Thanks for any responses.

Have you put a meter on it yet while running brake on and off to see what the actual voltage is?
sounds like maybe the gauge is reading incorrectly. I would think if it were truly discharging all this time you would have had battery issues long before now.
