I bought last summer a mustang skid loader to make sure I can clean the snow at my business parking lot.I let it sit till Jnuary when the first time I used it for about a 45 minutes I pulled it then over to take a break and speak with my father then let it sit in idle just for about 5minutes late it made a light cluncking noise and it quit.I tried to start it and noticed the spinning soun was a straight fast spin ,so I took the plug out had it cleanned up but still did not get anywhere .I checked the oil that looked like it ha some better days but was level and the crank did not cease .It still would crank but won't gire up yet.I like to get it running fast by swaping engines .Does any one have any idea what kind of engine beside the original discontinued kohler 310 that could fit to repower the machine? I like that little wizz but don't want to spend a fortune to get it rolling .thank you . I might try rebuilding the original engine if there is no other way to get a cross reference engine to repower it. Please advise what is the best solution possible. Thanks everyone in advance.I am new to this and hoping to get answers fast that could help making the best out if this situation.

Could the noise have been the coupler between the engine and pumps going?
I doubt it because there is no compression in the engine it looks like when I put my finger where the plug belongs , I didn't feel any pressure coming out of it so the piston looks like is not moving.

Thank you for the advice I am all new to this or this is all new to me I thought i posted this in yhe general section but somehow they moved it here for me not sure why.I will do that I'm trying to figure my way out there around it on this site in the meantime since I am in the for sale section what would be a fair price to ask for this machine as is if I decided not to bother with it anymore ? Thank you for your attention.

The rod is broke. Same happened to mine. Parts and labor about 400 not bad. But mine blew again 30 minutes after rebuild. Don't know if something was missed or put together wrong now I need another motor. If anyone has info on motor that can be used I too would like some info. Cant seem to find dual shaft motor to use.

Wow, only getting 30 minutes out of a rebuild is a bit poor..... I wonder if they didn't replace the oil pump or something to make it die.

My 310 had motor rebuilt twice, last time broke crank. enough time and money wasted. I got a P218 Onan from a 318 john deere garden tractor. Made some mounts, machined shaft to bolt on flywheel to run drive pumps. Rear shaft runs lift pump. Tight fit but oh boy ,what a smooth running set up . Very common engine . Found mine used for $100. Ran it for years ,then had to pull it to replace valve seat . Ground valves and still running today . Any questions feel free to call 319-329-0915
