I was running my brush cutter in the woods the other day clearing some trails and I suddenly lost all hydraulic function and white smoke started billowing out of the back of the machine. I pulled the emergency release and cut the engine immediately. It didn't shutdown on its own or even come up with any codes which I thought was kind of odd considering the loss of hydro pressure. The lift dropped but the cutter was tilted down and I could only open the door about 7-8 inches. I sort of panicked and thought I was going to have to pop the glass but somehow I managed to squirm out the crack in the door ... Opened the engine door and fluid was everywhere. Had to walk a mile to get to my truck and headed to the shop to get my tools....

In one of the picks you can see the hose that rubbed on the steel plate that the back left side engine mount is attached to . It just finally decided it had enough . Had to pull the track remove the guard . It was one of the hoses that ran to the left side hydro motor. Got a new one made today for 35 $ ... took about 4 hours to remove track and get it off. It was stuck pretty good.

When I was considering buying a track machine more than one person told me " Once you go track youll never go back" ... Ive decided its more like this : " Once you go track , youll want to smoke crack" .. Missing my 743. It seems like every time I get this machine going it will run about 10-15 hours and then something happens and its always some completely new torturous experience ....

Mallie, Sorry the pics weren't too great . The hose goes from the top right port on the hydro pump and goes to the left side motor . It's one of the two big ones . The hose I had made is rated at like 3500 lbs and I'm going back to have another one made for a larger rating . My dealer said the one I had made may or may not work ....

And yes I am 100 % positive it blew because of rubbing against the piece of metal ...

I went back to my local hydro shop and they made another hose for me and this time it's rated for 4000 psi as per Mallies suggestion . Today I installed the new hose successfully and while I was at it I changed out both case drain filters. One of them had the tiniest little filing of metal in it like smaller than a grain of rice and the other one was completely clean . Is this normal to see a particle or two ? I could hardly even tell if it was metal or just some kind of trash...

He did , my typo ... sorry
I would say that if it is just 1 or 2 flakes I wouldn't worry about it. Have you changed the outer drive hub oil? You need to look closely at the oil that comes from the hubs. If it looks like metallic paint, you may have a problem.

Well Sidura , that was my plan , at least while I had that left track off for this repair I was going to check the hub oil... I even went as far as to run by the dealership and buy the oil and also got a syringe I could use to fill it. However I was unable to get a single bolt out of the sprocket in the middle of the woods with only hand tools. Im going to have to wait till I can get it back to my shop .... But the hub oil is definitely HIGH up on my list of items to take care of ...

Oh and I also bought a FIRE EXTINGUISHER to keep in the cab .... duhhh
