I think I finally got my bobcat 743b back together with the replacement V2203DI engine - except that the engine wont turn. The starter would not spin it. I put a big wrench on it. It will only spin about 1/3 of a rotation. Any ideas?

How would I test and/or fix that?
other people know more than i, but if its a new motor or it spun free while out of the machine and now won't spin when it's in, i'd guess that it has to be the pump. OM or tazza will probably chime in and tell you how to really know for sure, i'm just going from what i've read on here in the past.

I know on some machines if the aux. hydraulics are on the engine will spin slow or not at all. Grab the right steering lever and wiggle it side to side to make sure its centered and not in detent mode.
there was a service bulliten out about this replacpement eng needs fly bolts ground down. I think going off memory here. but there was something that had to be done when upgrade eng installed. been here done this. call local dealer. have them check S/B

I'd like to think that the engine was tested before it was shipped to you?
Are you sure it's the engine and not the pump?
As OM said, even with the aux hydraulics on, it should still rotate, even if it was slowly.

Place where I bought the engine says I need to grind the bolts. I will try that this weekend - and get some "practice" removing and installing the engine ;-)

7LBSSMALLIE - I appreciate this wisdom you are sharing. Unless I have a part number in hand before I call, the Bobcat dealer seems to speak a different language than I do. Are there any more details about this service bulletin that will help me request it from the dealer? Thanks!

yes there is. ill try to do it meself and get back to you but it went something like this . the v1703 is no longer avail when replace eng. order part # yada yada yada. the following procuders will need need to be peformed. so in tech speak try to get part # for replacement eng. should flag see S/b #bti etc so heres what what do forget all that pull eng back out, what an hr? remove flywheel will it turn .... should. what if I think is happening you should is about 1/16 of bhright shiny on coners of bolts. ONCE FAN ? FLY REMOVED. bear with me here one fingered typist. A remove eng. B.remove fly wheely ?fan . ring of plate (rear eng mount frame bolts) need the corners taken off) otherwise the fan fly assy binds. after reading this it makes no sense to me either, should you need further clarification re post you got me for another 15 then its for bed . the jist of it is in there somewhere.

Was it just the bolt heads?
With the engine out, spin the pump just to be sure. Get a socket on the bolt to the pump and turn it over at least one turn to be sure.

It was the bolts. I broke two the first time I took it apart. Did not realize that I replaced them with bolts about 1/4 inch longer. It was catching on the other side of the flywheel. Need to buy shorter bolts and it should work. Fingers crossed...

Glad that was the problem.
You can always cut the bolts down with a hack saw.
