236 fuel gauge and accelorator pedal issues

Looking for help with my fuel gauge. I start my SSL and it automatically pegs to "F". Wondering if this is a common issue with either sending unit or the gauge? Secondly, my accelorator pedal no longer operates smooth and sticks whereever it is stopped. It does return fairly easily. I've heard that this may be as simple as lubing the linkage, but I've also heard it could mean a pedal and linage replacement. My machine is a 236 model year 2003 I am the the only owner and it has just shy of 600 hours.
