Just purchased a 04 Bobcat S185 because it was a great deal but have a few issues to take care of. When I purchased the machine the primer bulb was broke, I think it got pinched in the door and the plastic end was broke off going into the bulb. I got a new primer bulb and when I pump it up it never gets rock hard, you can just keep pumping and pumping. The machine starts great, it has keyless start, just touch the button and it fires right up. The machines runs great otherwise. Trying to figure out why it blows out black puff of smoke every time I increase the throttle, there is also a just a little white smoke all the time. I changed the fuel and air filters when I purchased the machine. I'm thinking fuel injectors? Should the primer bullb get hard (pressurized) or does this have nothing to do with the smoke. Thanks

I don't believe the primer bulb is the cause of smoke.
Ensure the bleed screw on the injector pump is fully closed. Pump the hand primer, see if it goes hard.
Its normal to get a small puff of black smoke at startup and when you change RPM quickly, its just excessive fuel being pumped in and not fully burning as the engine speeds up.
White smoke while running isn't great. Is it using any coolant or engine oil?

first i woud check to see if fuel lines might be pinched . a restricted return line will cause this

One other thing, is it turbo charged at all? not sure if it was an option on the S185 or not
It is a turbo charged machine. Oil looks good, coolant looks good also. Don't see any restriction on the lines. I took off the hose that goes to the turbo and there is some oil sitting in the hose.

The machine seems to be stalling out when I'm driving and I push both levers forward fast to speed up like it is getting to much fuel, air, or not enough fuel. I'm wondering if the fuel injectors need cleaning or replaced.

Is there a lot of oil in the hose? does the turbine on the turbo spin freely and does not move in or out/side to side? Its possible its not working right.

Fuel supply is the first thing I would check. Kubota have next to 0 fuel system problems. We don't even see transfer pumps crap out. I'm wondering, you said you got it cheap? Kubotas do not take kindly to overheating, maybe ones, but from there will blow heat gaskets or crack the heat. Sometimes they run fine, other time there will be driveablity issues. The turbo would have to be out for this thing to feel doggy and would smoke bad if not blow oil out the exhaust pipe. Normally when turbos go, they go. How does the fuel look when drain the filter? 98% of running problems is fuel filter or crap in the fuel. I have maybe replaced one set of injectors, they just don't have problems.

I would replace the fuel filter to start.

Some dark/blackish smoke is normal with a quick throttle change, especially on a turbo engine as the turbo takes a second or 2 too spool up to match the new engine speed. It should howeven not be short on power. You antifreeze/coolant level looks good and it is not a odd cooler of darkish grey. If so thats a bad headgasket or cylinder head crack.
If thats normal then low power is usually a fuel or lack there of or quality problem.
Ie new filter, new fuel, check fuel pump.

I picked up a used T250 last winter and the previous owner just idled around with it, never worked it hard. I too had some black smoke and also a little white smoke all the time. I changed out the filters to no avail, still smoked. I pulled the fuel filter, drained it and filled it with sea foam. When it fired up it smoked pretty good for a few minutes and then cleared up. Now it only puffs a little smoke on start up and when increasing the throttle quickly. The sea foam cleaned any carbon in the injectors and upper cylinder and that seemed to cure my problem..... may work for you too ?? just my $ .02
