More of a brain fart I guess. I know you have your hands full with updating and such, but thought I would ask. Is there a way to make a place for all the technical stuff to be put? Not so much a "how to" category, but like schematics, drawings, manuals, measurements, machine modification how-to, etc,.. all in one folder. Could be called "The Vault" or something similarly cool, to be accessed by registered users only. Kind of like one stop shopping? If someone needs to make something, or if someone needs information point them to "the folder". Again, just a thought :)

Sounds interesting...... I know we have some of this information already floating around, but over all different threads.

I'll consider it if we can get some more comment and input regarding content... I agree with Tazza, we have alot of that info spread out in posts and threads, but you're talking about consolidating and moving this stuff into one place right?

Yup. PDF files, or images of diagrams, measured drawings, things of that nature. Basically a single file of something you can put into a folder. There is a lot of informative material out there, and having it all in one spot would be great. Probably unique as well. Not that I'm trying to make more work for you or anything....... :)

Some of such info has a link to the thread in the "faq" section thought that may not be the best spot. This does not include pictures or pdf but may link to them.

Its a good idea, but any ideas on how to actually do it?
Is it something the mods will only be able to add to? as I'm assuming it will get too cluttered if we allow all posts to go there too?
In theory its easy, but adding to a knowledge base in my mind isn't quite so simple, especially keeping things relevant. Do you have any suggestions on this? i do like the idea.
Even breaking it up into sub sections like model? and I'm sure some models will have common parts.

We've talked about adding a FAQ or reference section before where answers to common problems could be put. I think we have been acumulating alot of material in individual posts that needs to be consolidated into a single forum catagory with subsections by major components(engine, hydraulics, hydrostatic, electrical, chaincase and Bobtach) as most of the Bobcats machines are simular when it comes to these areas. I think the moderators should be the ones to add material as it shows up in posts and users could make suggestions on items to be added. I also think that we should wait until the upgrades are done to the the forum before trying to add this catagory.

It may be better to wait until the changeover. I have no idea though. But I was thinking something similar to what is under "Media" at the top. When you click on that, it opens to the page of folders that users have created. How about adding another menu item to that drop down, or a better yet, a new one altogether like; Home, Buy/Sell, Forum, Media, Faqs, Surveys, Vault (or whatever name is decided on)? Then, have a folder for each brand of machinery, like what's on the forum homepage. Files could be added by mods to the appropriate manufacturer's folder. Probably have to have a "general" one as well for things that don't apply to a specific brand of machine. Users could determine what additional folders are needed and suggest files to be added. Mods would be the only ones allowed to add files, folders, or move files between folders. These folders would only contain files, not posts or links. Kinda like an electronic reference library. Keep it neat, orderly, and most importantly, simple. So it doesn't get out of control like a government program. Again, I have no idea on how much work it would be, or if it would be worth the hassle. I have never seen anything like it on another forum anywhere. But I like the idea of it, as long as you guys don't have to slave over your keyboards for weeks on end :)

The thing with separating it by brand of loader is alot of the technology is the same regardless of who made the machines. I suppose the best would be to put the common stuff again in each brand category.
But a hydraulic cylinder, hyd pump and most of the hydro systems are alot alike.

I like OldMachinist's idea of keeping it by section of bobtach, hydraulics etc. As has been said, a lot of parts are very close from machine to machine and even other brands.

Either way would be fine. My idea was just a basic one of consolidating everything to one location. Getting it sorted out as far as how to do it is the question. But if most of the technology is the same between manufacturers, separating it out that way might be the way to go. Otherwise you would have the same information in the different manufacturers folders. But that might not be bad either. It may make it easier to find what you are looking for, if you own a particular brand of machine. Didn't really think this would cause much of a stir, but glad to see there is some interest.

I'd still like to see a more traditional style forum board, but then I guess if I wish in one hand and sh*t in the other, there's only one hand that will actually fill up first.......................
